Care & Maintenance Guidelines
Proper care is essential to the performance, appearance, and lifespan of your Rapid River Knifeworks knife. Following these guidelines will help prevent damage and ensure your knife remains in excellent condition.
Cleaning
- Hand wash only using warm water and mild soap
- Dry immediately after washing
- Never place your knife in a dishwasher, as heat, detergents, and prolonged moisture can damage both blade and handle
Blade Care
- Apply a light coat of food-safe oil to the blade regularly, especially for carbon steel knives or before long-term storage
- Avoid leaving the blade wet or exposed to moisture
- Store in a dry environment
Handle Care
- Natural handle materials require periodic oiling to prevent drying
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water, extreme heat, cold, or high humidity
- Expansion or contraction of natural materials is normal and expected
Storage
- Store knives in a dry, climate-controlled environment
- Use a sheath, blade guard, or knife block to protect the edge
- Avoid long-term storage in leather sheaths, as leather can retain moisture
Proper Use
- Use your knife only for its intended purpose
- Do not pry, twist, or use the knife as a screwdriver or tool
- Avoid cutting hard materials such as metal, stone, or frozen foods unless the knife is specifically designed for such use
Sharpening
- Sharpen using appropriate sharpening stones or systems
- Damage caused by improper sharpening techniques or tools is not covered under warranty
