    Rapid Axe Breakdown

    Who's this knife for?

The Rapid Axe is for the hunter and camper who wants a compact hatchet that pulls double duty in the field. Too many hatchets are either too heavy to justify packing in or too flimsy to do real work. The Rapid Axe splits the difference. It's built to baton through kindling, break down small limbs, process firewood, and clear shooting lanes without weighing down your pack. It also crosses over into game processing when you need to split a pelvis, crack through a rib cage, or quarter out an animal in the backcountry. If you're packing into elk country, setting up a wall tent camp, or just spending a weekend in the woods and want one tool that handles wood and bone, this is it.

    Blade specs and steel

D2 tool steel, hardened to 58-60 HRC. D2 holds its edge through hard contact with wood and bone without chipping or rolling. The backside of the axe features a built- in 20 degree knife sharpener for when you’re in a pinch.  Blade length is 3 3/4 inches with an overall length of 9 1/4 inches. Blade thickness is .25 inches, the thickest spine in the lineup, built to absorb impact from batoning and chopping without flexing. Full tang construction running the entire length of the handle for strength under repeated heavy strikes. Hand assembled in Rapid River, Michigan.

    Handle material and grip

Available in textured G10 handles, hardwood, & antler. Handle length is 5 1/2 inches, long enough to generate real chopping power on a compact frame. Each handle is hand-fitted and contoured for a secure grip during repeated swinging and striking. The profile is shaped to prevent the hand from sliding forward toward the blade during hard use.

    What's in the box?

Rapid Axe, your choice of fitted leather belt sheath or custom-molded Kydex sheath, and care instructions. Custom laser engraving is available for logos or personalized text.

    Care and maintenance

RRK knives are built for hard use in the field, shop, kitchen, and everyday carry. To keep your knife performing at its best, proper care and routine maintenance are recommended.

After each use, hand wash the knife with soap and warm water, then dry it completely. Do NOT place your knife in the dishwasher. Apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or knife-specific blade oil after cleaning to help protect the blade and maintain the finish, especially for knives used in the kitchen or around moisture and acidic foods.

Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, saltwater, blood, or acidic materials, and never leave the knife stored wet or dirty. For long-term storage, keep the knife in a cool, dry location and avoid storing it inside a leather sheath for extended periods.

To maintain the edge, use a leather strop or carbide sharpener between full sharpenings. Avoid power grinders or excessive heat during sharpening, as overheating can damage the blade’s heat treatment and edge retention.

Rapid River Knifeworks offers free sharpening and polishing for the life of every RRK knife. Simply ship the knife in and the team will restore the factory edge and finish. Customer is responsible for return shipping.

    Shipping and delivery

Orders are typically processed and shipped within 3–4 business days. Due to the handcrafted nature of RRK knives, custom laser engraving requests, and seasonal order volume, processing times may vary.

Once your order ships, you will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information. Shipping protection is available for purchase at checkout for added protection against lost or damaged packages during transit.

There is also an option at checkout to pick up your order in-store at no charge if you plan to be in the area. Once your order is ready, the RRK team will contact you so your knife is ready and waiting when you arrive.

If you have questions about your order status, please contact the RRK team through the contact page.

PERSONALIZE YOUR KNIFE Custom Laser Engraving

Make it yours. We offer in-house custom laser engraving on any blade. Add a name, a date, a logo, a company brand, a memorial, an anniversary, or anything that makes this knife mean something beyond the edge. Engraved knives make standout corporate gifts, retirement awards, groomsmen presents, and milestone keepsakes. If it matters enough to put on a blade, we'll put it on a blade.
