    Skinner Hunting Knife Breakdown

    Who's this knife for?

The Skinner is the pure skinning knife in the lineup. No compromises, no crossover, just a blade built to do one thing and do it better than anything else in your pack. The wide, sweeping belly and curved edge profile maximizes hide-to-blade contact on every stroke, letting you separate skin from meat in long, clean pulls without cutting into the flesh underneath. If you're a deer hunter who saves hides for tanning, a trapper who needs clean pelts, or a big game hunter who wants to keep a cape in perfect condition for a mount, this is the blade that protects your work. The hidden tang design keeps the knife light and balanced for the hours of detailed, repetitive cuts that skinning demands.

    Blade specs and steel

D2 tool steel, hardened to 58-60 HRC. D2 holds its edge through an entire skinning session without dulling, which matters when a dull blade is the fastest way to ruin a hide. Blade length is 3 3/4 inches with an overall knife length of 8 inches. Blade thickness is .182 inches, ground with a wide flat profile that lets the edge glide between hide and meat without digging in. Hidden tang design for a lighter, balanced knife that reduces hand fatigue during long skinning sessions.

    Handle material and grip

Available in multiple exotic hardwood, domestic hardwood handle, antler, & acrylic options. Handle length is 4 1/4 inches. Each handle is hand-fitted and contoured for a grip that lets you apply steady, even pressure through long pulling strokes. Shaped for control when your hands are slick with fat and blood during field processing. Hand assembled in Rapid River, Michigan.

    What's in the box?

    Care and maintenance

RRK knives are built for hard use in the field, shop, kitchen, and everyday carry. To keep your knife performing at its best, proper care and routine maintenance are recommended.

After each use, hand wash the knife with soap and warm water, then dry it completely. Do NOT place your knife in the dishwasher. Apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil or knife-specific blade oil after cleaning to help protect the blade and maintain the finish, especially for knives used in the kitchen or around moisture and acidic foods.

Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, saltwater, blood, or acidic materials, and never leave the knife stored wet or dirty. For long-term storage, keep the knife in a cool, dry location and avoid storing it inside a leather sheath for extended periods.

To maintain the edge, use a leather strop or carbide sharpener between full sharpenings. Avoid power grinders or excessive heat during sharpening, as overheating can damage the blade’s heat treatment and edge retention.

Rapid River Knifeworks offers free sharpening and polishing for the life of every RRK knife. Simply ship the knife in and the team will restore the factory edge and finish. Customer is responsible for return shipping.
